The endometrium includes the stratum functionalis with endometrial glands and the stratum basalis supported by endometrial stroma. A magnified inset highlights simple ciliated columnar epithelium lining the uterine cavity. Below the endometrium, the myometrium consists of three layers of smooth muscle: inner longitudinal, stratum vasculare, and outer longitudinal, with arcuate vessels visible within the muscle bundles. The outermost layer is the perimetrium (serosa), lined by mesothelium, shown in a separate inset.
