Histological section of the lingual tonsil stained with H&E, showing lymphoid tissue embedded in the posterior tongue. The surface is lined by non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium, which invaginates to form tonsillar crypts. Beneath the epithelium, the lamina propria contains numerous lymphatic nodules. A fibrous capsule partially surrounds the tonsil, and skeletal muscle fibers are visible deeper in the section. Mucous glands are present near the capsule, with mucous acini highlighted in an inset. Another inset shows the epithelial layer in detail, illustrating multiple cell layers without keratinization. The image demonstrates the lingual tonsil’s immune role and its association with glandular tissue and tongue musculature.
