Histological cross-section of a peripheral nerve stained with H&E. The image shows multiple nerve fibers grouped into fascicles. Each axon is surrounded by a myelin sheath, with neurolemmocyte (Schwann cell) nuclei visible along the fibers. The loose connective tissue endoneurium surrounds individual fibers and their neurolemmocyte, while the dense connective tissue perineurium encloses each fascicle. The outer dense connective tissue epineurium forms the connective tissue sheath around the entire nerve. Capillaries are present within the fascicles amongst the perineurium and endoneurium. The image illustrates the layered organization of a peripheral nerve and its supporting structures.
