From left to right: the sclera forms the outer fibrous layer, followed by the choroid containing blood vessels. Next is the basal complex and retinal pigmented epithelium. The neural retina includes rods and cones, the outer nuclear layer, outer plexiform layer, inner nuclear layer, inner plexiform layer, ganglion cell layer, and nerve fiber layer. The image illustrates the organization of retinal layers and their relationship to supporting structures.
