Electron micrograph of a eukaryotic cell showing multiple organelles. The nucleus is centrally located with a distinct nuclear envelope and granular chromatin. Surrounding the nucleus are extensive networks of rough endoplasmic reticulum studded with ribosomes and smooth endoplasmic reticulum without ribosomes. Several mitochondria with visible cristae are dispersed throughout the cytoplasm. The Golgi apparatus appears as a stack of flattened membranes near vesicles. Lysosomes and small vesicles are scattered in the cytoplasm. Ribosomes are visible both free and attached to the rough ER. The image illustrates the ultrastructure of a cell and its major organelles.
