Histological section of the colon stained with H&E, showing the layered structure of the large intestine. The mucosa contains intestinal crypts lined by enterocytes and goblet cells, highlighted in a magnified inset. The lamina propria lies beneath the epithelium, followed by the muscularis mucosae. The submucosa is visible below, and the muscularis externa consists of thick smooth muscle layers forming the taenia coli. The outermost layer is the serosa or adventitia. The image illustrates the organization of the colon wall and its epithelial cell types.
