Histological section of the appendix stained with H&E, showing the layered structure of the wall. The innermost layer is the mucosa, lined by simple columnar epithelium with goblet cells and supported by lamina propria. Numerous lymphatic nodules occupy the mucosa and submucosa, surrounding the intestinal crypts. The muscularis externa consists of an inner circular layer and an outer longitudinal layer of smooth muscle. The outermost serosa is visible, lined by mesothelium. A magnified inset highlights the mucosa, submucosa with lymphoid tissue, and muscular layers. The overall image illustrates the appendix’s prominent lymphoid tissue and its tubular organization.
